Queen of Calm

AMANDA JANE JONES

Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Author, and Mother

SALT LAKE CITY, UT

To some, a white wall is boring. Uninspired even. Not to designer Amanda Jane Jones. To her, that same wall is a calming backdrop to the creative life that plays out in every room of her Salt Lake City home. Ask her, and she’ll tell you that simplicity inspires her. “I’ve started to learn that I’m highly sensitive to my surroundings, which is why I love calm and peaceful spaces.”

She turned to Kohler for our minimalist kitchen and bathroom designs that flowed with her discerning pops of texture and color without overshadowing them. In this way, every piece of her house pulls together as a cohesive and happy whole. The feeling was captured best by a family member. “My sister-in-law gave me the best compliment when she left our home for the first time. She said, ‘It feels like cozy Christmas, but without the Christmas.’” With the fundamentals of decor, such as the walls, lighting, and hardware, harmoniously humming in the background, the focus remains on her family and the memories they make in every room of the house—like the kitchen, of course.

Amanda Jane Jones wasn’t afraid to share the behind-the-scenes images of her remodel journey. She kept her calm during demolition by focusing on the finished design with room renders like this one from Form Kitchens. The design consultants and product experts at your local KOHLER Store can help you bring your vision to life and keep your eye on the prize throughout your project.

Amanda and her family are always in the kitchen. “The kitchen is the heart of our home! We eat almost every meal together.” They purposefully designed their kitchen to accommodate the creative chaos of a room that can spontaneously transform into everything from a classroom or an art studio to a Friday night pizza feeding frenzy. The kids can sit across from the island sink while Amanda and her husband clean up the aftermath and get the kids ready for a bath.

“I know looking back on these bubble-filled bath nights will be some of my favorite memories.”

Bath time for the kids means all hands on deck. “My kids are still so little, it’s a family affair.” All three kids hop into the KOHLER bath for a bubbles bonanza. “I know looking back on these bubble-filled bath nights will be some of my favorite memories.” Even if kitchen and bath time become chaotic, Amanda remains calm, cool, and collected thanks to the tranquil retreat of her bathroom. “This is our first time having a separate bathroom from our children. I love having a calm space to get ready in the morning, free from squishy bath toys and toothpaste globs.”
